In the days leading up to January 20 feast for St. Sebastian, Catholics in Kerala, India celebrate with novenas, processions and fireworks. Part of the devotion includes bringing decorated plates with small golden arrows to a statue of St. Sebastian. Many devotees make a small offering to borrow a plate from the parish, which is returned shortly thereafter for others to use. In return they receive prasadam, sanctified sweets or other gifts.
